Vins d'Alsace Home » Overmaturity
These wines are made from grapes harvested well past their usual ripeness. This late harvest choice allows the berries to concentrate sugars and aromas, giving rise to powerful, smooth, and expressive wines.
Thanks to this extreme ripeness, the grapes develop a natural richness that results in a higher alcohol content and remarkable aromatic intensity.
hese rare juices also gain an exceptional ability to evolve over time: they are wines meant for very long aging, often capable of lasting for decades.
The most renowned of these cuvées bear the labels ‘Vendanges Tardives‘ or ‘Sélection de Grains Nobles‘ — true marks of nobility in the Alsatian vineyard.
However, not every vintage lends itself to this type of winemaking.
The late season, after the traditional harvest, must provide ideal conditions: a mix of sunshine and mist, with mild and dry temperatures.
It is this unique climate that allows the grapes to concentrate without rotting, thus reaching the perfect balance.
When overripe, the berries dehydrate: they lose water but gain sugar, aromas, and intensity. This natural concentration elevates the juice to a unique level of expression—rich, deep, and long-lasting on the palate.
These exceptional wines, characterized by their noble sugar and complex aromatic palette, are made to last.
When well stored, they can improve for more than ten years, developing notes of honey, candied fruits, spices, and dried fruits.
This Pinot Gris, selection of noble grains, is produced in exceptional years, the result of a favorable climate.
2017 is therefore a special vintage forged by the weather, a mild late season useful to the success of this cuvée in the selection of noble grains.
Without rain, the season was ideal for the development of noble rot.
650 bottles come from plots that are around forty years old.
Its opulent golden yellow color and very expressive nose are characterized by notes of acacia honey. On the palate this wine is rich and fat, with a nice acid frame on the finish. A round, gourmet wine with a nice note of freshness.
This bottle is the testimony of an expression of a late harvest, in its most singular way, with the only influence of the Alsatian microclimate. This wine comes from a plot, the «kalkofen», planted in 1965.
Harvested by hand in overripe, the grapes are gently pressed for 6 hours to preserve their aromas.
The vinification is done by gravity and aging on fine lees in centenary oak casks before a spring bottling.
This bottle embodies the expression of a late-harvest Riesling from the granite terroirs of Turckheim.
Voici une traduction claire et naturelle de cette phrase :
“Harvested during the second lockdown, this ‘Riesling hors la loi‘ benefited from extended ripening on the vine, giving it a naturally high alcohol potential.”
Si vous voulez, je peux aussi rendre ça un peu plus formel ou plus narratif.
Hand-harvested, the must fermented spontaneously, driven by indigenous yeasts, without any intervention.
Representing the 11th generation, Charlotte and Florent now join forces to uphold and develop the family values.
“ Steep and sunny soils, up to 45° slope “
The diversity of Alsatian wine-growing soils, rich in 13 geological varieties, composes a mosaic of terroirs conducive to the production of exceptional wines with a strong personality.
At the Justin Boxler estate, the soils are essentially granitic (Brand, Sommerberg, Wineck-Schlossberg), limestone (Florimont, Pfoeller), clay and marl sandstone.

After a two-year absence, Muscat and Pinot Noir Rosé are back on our menu! Two wines full of character, designed to accompany your sunny moments.
Pinot Noir [Kritt] is a new cuvée presented for the first time with the 2022 vintage. Coming from a massal selection plot originating in Burgundy, this Pinot Noir was deliberately planted closer to the ground to promote optimal ripening.
The grapes were carefully hand-picked into 40-kg perforated baskets to preserve the integrity of the berries until they reached the winery.
For vinification, we opted for whole-bunch maceration, made possible by the exceptional quality of the vintage.
We also created a “mille-feuille” of whole-bunch and destemmed grapes, achieving a subtle balance between freshness, structure, and complexity.
The prolonged exchange between the solid parts and the juice has offered a finer texture and increased elegance. To reveal the full potential of this cuvée, we aged it for two winters in 500 L barrels and demi-muids, to further refine the mouthfeel, for a silky grain and additional depth.
